OCLS’ Video on Demand (VoD) cost-recovery service was launched in 2002 to provide online streaming access to participating colleges’ video collections.
In 2012, at the request of all colleges, CLO (then HLLR) commissioned a series of research projects to identify the college libraries’ video streaming resources and requirements; conduct an environmental scan of the video streaming options available; and, finally, to prepare a series of recommendations for consideration by CLO and the college libraries.
After deliberating the findings and recommendations, consensus was reached, and CLO recommended that college libraries consider Kanopy as a platform for streaming video. OCLS, at the request of the libraries using the VoD service, migrated the VoD content to the Kanopy platform over the winter of 2015/16, and the VoD cost-recovery service was retired.
