RVM (Répertoire de vedettes-matière) offers French translation and adaptation of common cataloguing thesauri terms as well as original terms created by RVM. For more details, and for description of RVM in French, please see the vendor's website.
RVM's content is composed of four thesauri:
- Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH)
- Canadian Subject Headings (CSH) of Library and Archives Canada
- Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) of National Library of Medicine
- Art and Architecture Thesaurus (AAT) of J. Paul Getty Trust
- Original subject headings, unique to RVM
- Equivalence with Répertoire d’autorité-matière encyclopédique et alphabétique unifié (RAMEAU) of Bibliothèque nationale de France
RVMGF: Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms (LCGFT)
RVMMEM: Library of Congress Medium of Performance Thesaurus for Music (LCMPT)
RVMGD: Library of Congress Demographic Group Terms (LCDGT)
Creation, Equivalence, or Modification Service
From the vendor: "You may need an authority that is not in one the 4 RVM thesauruses, want to report a typo in an authority record, or add a "used for" reference. With RVM you can submit requests for the creation, equivalence, and modification of authorities for your specific indexing needs.
Automated Translation Service
Subscribers of the Advanced service may also use the Automated Translation service. From the vendor: "To derive bibliographic records with authorities in French and produce a machine translation, use the automated translation of authorities service. This service will translate authorities in bibliographic records from English to French or French to English one by one, by batch, or by retrospective batch."
RVMWeb offers online access to the RVM content, as well as use of the Creation, Equivalence, or Modification service. IP authentication offers read-only access. In order to download content, and to use the Creation, Equivalence, or Modification service, users must log in with a personal user account. The Automated Transaltion service is available to RVMWeb subscribers at an additional fee. Rates are available on the vendor's website.
Subscribers may choose between FTP and CD-ROM delivery of the RVM records for import into their ILS. The Basic subscription includes the use of the Creation, Equivalence, or Modification service; only the Advanced subscription includes use of the Automated Translation service.
