eBook Purchases (EBSCO)
The most popular model for buying e-book titles is an ownership model. EBSCO offers flexible ownership options based on the number of simultaneous users that you want to establish for each title purchased. No matter which option you choose, the titles you purchase are owned in perpetuity—patrons can always access the title.
User Access Options
Titles may be purchased for single user access, three user access, and unlimited user access. Note that not all titles are available at all three access levels. A fourth access level available is the Concurrent Access Model (CAM). From the vendor: "The Concurrent Access Model (CAM) provides a perpetual license to e-books available on an unlimited concurrent access basis up to an annual maximum of uses (typically 365 uses). Once that number is met, the e-book becomes unavailable. On the anniversary of the purchase date, the number of uses is reset to the original maximum. The institution can also purchase another copy under the Concurrent Access license, which would grant them another allotment of uses."
Content and Acquisition Options
Titles may be purchased individually or in collections. For individual title purchases, please contact the vendor directly. OCLS can assist colleges with the purchase of collections. Please visit the vendor's website to browse available collections. Subject sets may also be customized, e.g. titles may be dropped from a given subject set if they are not of interest. EBSCOhost ebooks may also be purchased via GOBI, OASIS, and EBSCOhost Collection Manager (ECM), in which case OCLS would not be involved in the acquisition.
Title Checkout Period
The duration for which a title is available for checkout/download by a user is one of multiple settings that can be configured by site administrators, and these settings will apply to all titles without exception. Please see the vendor's article "How can administrators modify the checkouts and holds settings for EBSCO eBooks and Audiobooks?" for details.
